Colour blindness caused 900 disqualifications from 18,447 applicants for the Royal Navy in a recent year. Great Britain has more than 2000 golf clubs, with a average membership of 300 each. As each course averages 70 acres, this means that 140,000 acres of land are occupied by golf courses, and there are at least 600,000 players. First lit about 1200 years ago, a lamp in an old palace in Travancore, India, has never been extinguished. It burns in memory of a ruler who is said to have ascended to heaven while resting on a stone couch.
