MAURICEVILLE

♦ FORESTERS’ LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of Court Kopuaranga was held in the lodge room, Mauriceville West, on Saturday evening. Bro. K. L. Palmer presided over a good attendance. The Woodwards reported the death of Bro. Sowerby and a vote of condolence with the relatives was passed. Two brethren were reported on the sick fund. Foul’ accounts were passed for payment. The secretary presented the interim balance sheet in connection with the recent jubilee celebration, and the committee was heartily congratulated on the success of the functions. ■ At the conclusion of business a social hour was spent at cards and supper. TENNIS CLUB. The Mauriceville Tennis Club concluded its season during the weekend with a tournament. There was a good attendance but rain stopped play early in the afternoon. Trophies won during the season were presented as follows: Ladies’ Championship, Miss Jean JX'lcGovern; Men’s Championship, F. Morrell; Runners-up Miss M. Kenny and H. Myers; Handicaps, Miss Mavis Tildesley and F. Morrell; Runners-up, Miss D. Trass and H. Myers. Afternoon, tea was served by the ladies. PERSONALS. The friends of Mrs R. Brooks will regret to learn that she has had to enter hospital. - Mrs W. H. Lehmstedt, who has been a patient in the Masterton hospital, is now convalescing at her home. Mr and Mrs G. McWhirter are on a holiday four of the Taranaki and Taupo districts. . The friends of Miss Jean Kerr, who is a patient in Glenwood will be pleased to learn she is progressing satisfactorily. ASSISTANCE IN SPORT. The report of the head teacher in connection with the Mauriceville school states: “I should like to thank Mr M. Welch for his assistance in coaching " the' ’ boys at football, ’ and Mr F. Morrell, who gave several valuable lessons in tennis to the pupils.”
