YOUNG FARMERS’ FIELD DAY RESULTS MASTERTON AGAIN WIN POINT BLANK CUP. UNITED KINGDOM SUCCESSFUL IN TEAMS CONTEST. More than usual interest attached to the Wairarapa district interclub judging competition held by Young Farmers’ clubs at Solway last Wednesday on account of the presence of four members of the British Isles team which recently visited Australia. The special teams competition was won by the United Kingdom and Masterton again secured the Point Blank Cup. The members of the British team, Messrs E. Christopher (England), I. C. Gilmour (Scotland), R. Gamble (Northern Ireland) and E. Williams (Wales) clearly showed that they were stock judges of exceptional ability. Although penalised severely by lack of familiarity with New Zealand stock and our methods of conducting competitions, the visitors were successful in winning the special class in which they competed against the New Zealand team and a team selected on previous performances from Wairarapa members. Mr Gamble put in the best card in the Ayrshire class. The consistent ability of all members of this team gave them the lead over the local competitors. The members of the New Zealand team were Messrs H. McKenzie and A. Fisher (Carterton) and A. Viles and A. Cowan (Apiti). The most prominent member of this team was Mr McKenzie, who was very closely placed second to Mr Gamble in the Ayrshire class. The district representatives, selected from amongst those representing their club in the Point Blank Cup competition on the basis of performances in last year’s district competition and other local events, were Messrs A- P. Southey (Romneys), \of Masterton; T. Yeomans (Hereford) and V. Gates (Ayrshires) of Greytown, and B. McKenzie (Clydesdales) of Masterton. This team gave a good account of itself, Mr McKenzie being successful in the Clydesdale class. The Masterton Club is to be congratulated on winning the Point Blank Cup for the second year in succession. As was the case last year the club scored consistently well in all classes. The clulis placed next were Ballance, Mangatainoka and Greytown and these merit great praise for their performances, as they were some of the smaller clubs in the district. Generally speaking, the classes were more difficult and the competition scores lower than was the case last year. There is no doubt that competition is becoming keener and that members are gaining more experience through A. and P. and club competitions. Following are the detailed results: TEAMS COMPETITION.
