Tribute to Police.
Appreciation of the assistance given by the police to marooned settlers and others during the Hoods in Hawke's Bay last week was expressed by the Minister in Charge of the Police Department, Hon. P. Fraser, when replying to a deputation at Wellington yesterday. “I wish to express my appreciation of the work of the police in the Hawke’s Bay area,” said Mr Fraser. ‘‘Fine tributes have been paid to them by the mayors of Napier and Hastings, and by the members of Parliament for Napier and Hawke’s Bay, and these cannot but give us great gratification. The men in Hawke’s Bay rose to the occasion. and people were helped to their utmost. The police did wonderful work and spared no pains in rescuing those who were marooned.” Mr Fraser also paid a tribute to the aviators and members of the aero club and air force for the great work they had done in using aeroplanes to take succour and food to those who could not otherwise be
