THE DENTAL CLINIC APPEAL.
zk quick response is needed to the appeal made by the Masterton Dental Clinic Committee in the letter which was read at the meetings of school householders last night. The clinic service is one that should be expanding apace, instead of being hampered and held up by financial difficulties, and the incoming committees of the town schools in which payments have fallen away to a totally inadequate amount no doubt will do all they can to rouse parents to a sense of their duty where the Dental Clime is concerned. It is admittedly a difficulty that many parents give as little heed to the work of the school committees as to that of the Dental Clinic Committee. On the facts presented last night, however, the position reached is serious and parents must be prepared to face their responsibilities unless they wish their children to be deprived of the great benefits of regular dental treatment. In comparison with the benefits conferred on the children, the payment asked for is t rifling—an amount of 5s per annum’for each child under treatment. All that is asked is that parents who are well able to do so should make this small payment. There is no question of attempting to exact payment from parents who are not in a position to make it. In existing conditions, however, the number oi. parents who would find it a hardship to pay 5s a year per child for dental treatment must be very small indeed.
