Beetham, “Highmore,” Lansdowne, Masterton, held a coming-out party for their daughter, Miss Leslie Beetham, on a recent evening when more than two hundred guests were entertained at the Arcade Hall. Another debutante was Miss Beetham’s friend, Miss June Pettit. The hall presented a pretty scene with its decorations of red oak leaves and blue hydrangeas, and a Wellington orchestra provided the music. Miss Beetham wore a lovely debutante frock of button-holed cream satin made with a high waist and full skirt, and she carried a Victorian posy in shades of pale pink and blue. Miss Pettit chose an early Victorian dress of pale pink taffeta and tulle, with a very full skirt and fitted bodice with a spray of pale pink roses on the shoulder. Her posy matched that of the other debutante. Mrs Beetham wore a gown of tomato red silver embossed eloque with long ninon sleeves, and Mrs Pettit’s dress was of soft petu-nia-shaded georgette. Mrs Norman Beetham, Miss Leslie Beetham’s grandmother, was wearing black, Mrs I. C. Ramsden wore floral georgette and Mrs T. C. H. Miller wore embossed silver’ brocade. The Ranfurly Clubrooms were used for sitting out and for supper, the tables being decorated with bowls of pink chrysanthemums.
