JUNIOR MATCH. OPAKI v GREYTOWN. (By "Touchline.”) The game between the Opaki and Greytown juniors was very evenly contested. Opaki started with 12 players, but Solomon was soon injured and had to retire. Fergus arrived and took the field, going to half-back, where he made his presence felt. Greytown were the first to score, a try coming from a back movement. No goal resulted. From this on till halftime, Opaki kept up a determined attack, their forwards playing a splendid game. Duncan led them in great style, his play being an eye-opener. Although two short in the forwards they got the ball in the scrums as much as Greytown. Fergus, who was playing a heady game, would send the leather out to Neilsen, on to Hargood and every back would handle it. From one fine movement Costello gained possession to race through the opposing backs and score, but his kick at goal failed. The first half ended 3 points all. On resuming Opaki forwards dribbled in good style, the whole five sweeping upfield in spectacular manner. Greytown retaliated and, : from a back movement a try was scored, the kick proving successful. Back to the attack went the Reds to see Marshall over for a try, which was not converted. Three splendid rushes carried the ball to the Yellow line, but when a score seemed certain the whistle went for a free-kick for Greytown. From a scrum in midfield Fergus sent Hargood away. The latter raced upfield but was tackled by an opponent and brought to earth to lose possession of the ball. Spectators were amazed to see the Opaki player ordered off, it is understood, for allegedly striking the player who was holding him down. With the scores 8/6 and Opaki with only 11 players, things looked black for the local team, but they stuck to it gamely, Costello on one occasion being forced out at the corner flag. Roygard secured from the lineout and seemed to cross the line. Workman sent the ball to near the halfway flag where q scrum took place and the Greytown forwards rushed downfield to eventually score an unconverted try. What a game fight the Reds put up. Duncan was easily the best forward on the ground, his footwork being a treat to see. Clarke, Roygard, Marshall, Liideman, and Solomon, till injured, played splendidly. Fergus at half was clever and supplied his backs with the ball in good style, enabling Neilsen to break away and send on to Hargood. This lad played a fine game. Costello worked like a tiger, his try being a fine effort. Governor and Hunt were very safe, while Tommy Remeni, at full back, was as good as ever. The game was played out in a very friendly spirit.
