REBEL BOMBING
« ATTACKS ON BRITISH SHIP FRANK DISGUST EXPRESSED BY SKIPPER. FLAG OF THE EMPIRE SLIGHTED. (Recd This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 1. Captain Scott, of the Stancroft, a sister ship of the Stanbrook, reporting on the air raids on Barcelona in which splinters struck a majority of the twelve British ships in harbour, declared that British masters were disgusted with the Government for not protesting against Hitler and Mussolini trampling on the British flag, which now ranked below the Panama ensign.
The British steamer Surreybrook which has arrived at Port Chandres, reported that three unknown aeroplanes attacked her east of Barcelona ineffectually dropping six bombs. The Surreybrook's S.O.S. brought French destroyers to her rescue.
A message from Barcelona on April 30 reported: Rebels carried out two air raids on Barcelona this morning. Casualties are 35 killed and 68 injured. The latter include a British member of the crew of the merchantman Stanbrook.
