INQUEST ON NEW ZEALANDERS. MR BYER LIVES FOR THREE DAYS WITH BROKEN NECK. LONDON, May 1. At the inquest into the death of the New Zealanders Colin Byer and Ernest Ratcliffe, who were admitted to hospital after their aeroplane crashed in Surrey, medical evidence showed that Mr Byer lived three days with a broken neck. The hearing was adjourned, pending an Air Ministry inquiry. Mr Byer was trapped in the cabin. He warned the rescuers of the danger of the petrol tank catching fire. His companion, Mr Ernest Ratcliffe, received a broken thigh. He besought the rescuers to get his friend out first.
