A Fortunate Farmer.
Farmer’s in the Manawatu have been affected by the outbreak of eczema among their flocks, and it is feared that heavy losses may be sustained. A curious case worthy of note is that one farm at Rongotea is quite free from the disease though five surrounding farms are affected. The fortunate farmer in this case has had his sheep grazing during the dry spell on swamp land, and they have had the benefit of green feed during the worst of the hot summer and autumn, and thus avoided the ill-effects of the sudden flush of late grass.
Increasing Membership Roll. The Women’s National Welfare League has a membership of 77, and the number is steadily growing. Road Accident. Late on Saturday night a Carterton cyclist riding on the main road in South Carterton was struck from behind by a motor-cyclist proceeding to Martinborough. Both riders were thrown from their machines, the mo-tor-cyclist suffering severe cuts on the face, while the Carterton man received slight concussion. After treatment on the roadside by Dr W. J. Wells both men were taken home by friends.
