CENTRAL SCHOOL

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION TWO YEARS OF PROGRESS “In presenting this report, covering a period of two years (May 1936-April 1938), I do so with pleasure as I consider our efforts as outlined below prove conclusively that oui’ committee has worked well and have achieved good results during this their first term of office, states the chairman (Mi - G. R. Beecroft). In spite of the fact that the schools were closed fox’ some time during the epidemic and our activities therefore somewhat curtailed, the committee held 27 meetings, 17 dances, 4 concerts, 3 fancy dress parties and two bazaars, making a total of 53 attendances during the two years. Some of these functions, though not perhaps financially profitable, have been of great social advantage to pupils, parents and teachers alike. The members of the committee have worked in a most harmonious manner, have enjoyed doing the work involved, and have shown a keenness of spirit in all things undertaken by them. The wireless set at present in the school is not suitable, serving only two rooms. A new set serving nine classrooms is being

purchased by the school committee to the cost of which we are donating £l5. It is also the intention to establish .a school library for use by the pupils attending the school, and a start has been made in this respect. During the two years the workings of the committee show a net profit of approximately £l7O. This amount has been expended as follows: ploughing and resowing school grounds, £42; drum and trumpet band, £6O; library, £l5; part cost of radio, £l5; crockery, urn, trays, etc., £9 10s; donation red caps, £1; cash in hand for top dressing. £l5.

In July 1936. owing to his leaving the district, Mr R. Frater resigned from the chaii’ and Mi- G. R. Beecroft was appointed to fill his place. Mr and Mrs Henry Jones also left Masterton and the absence of these three active members is regretted. The outgoing members of the committee again offer themselves for re-election as follows: —President. Mi’ G. R. Beecroft; hon sec. Mr P. H. Shaw; hon treasurer. Mr E. G. Coddington: committee: Mesdames Beecroft, Nicol, Braggins and Coddington. Messrs Stains, Bradley, Butler, Nicol. Dixon and Kennedy. The committee have decided that their number be not more than IG, including 5 ladies and 11 men. We desire to place on record our appreciation of the

valuable help given so readily by members of the Association and theii’ friends, especially to Mr Syd Smith and the local Press, who have been of great assistance to the committee.”

May: “How did you chance to meet your second husband?” Mary: “Oh, just by accident; he ran ovex’ my first husband with his car!”
