ATTACK BY FIFTY CHINESE PLANES. SPECTACULAR CONFLICT OVER CITY. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) HANKOW, April 29. Nearly a thousand were killed and wounded in the Hanyang suburb of Hankow as a result of a Japanese air raid, staged to mark the Japanese Emperor’s birthday. The Chinese anticipated the raid, which culminated in a spectacular air battle between fifty Chinese and thirty-nine Japanese planes. The Chinese lost three machines and the Japanese twenty.
