Y.M.C.A. GYMNASIUM. An undoubted asset in Masterton is the gymnasium centre provided by the Masterton Y.M.C.A. With a vision that takes in all groups of the community the association is again providing classes for women and men and for girls and boys of all ages. The approach of the colder weather will no doubt cause many to turn their thoughts to the excellent indoor recreation of the gymnasium, and the splendid success of last year’s classes culminating in the outstanding performance in the Opera House at the end of the season, should attract with confidence large numbers of young people and older people too to the Y.M.C.A. this year. The physical and recreational work of the gymnasium this year will be guided principally by Mr C. Greager, who has had experience in the Wanganui Association and a period of gymnasium instruction in the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium under Mr J. F. Hanna, is well equipped with modern methods of physical culture and development. This work will, of course, continue to be under the supervision of the General Secretary of the Association, Mr A. E. Bate. Mr A. Tatton, whose ability as a gymnast has already been ■ demonstrated to the Masterton public in various connections, is taking charge of the advanced gymnastics. and the promise of a good and skilled group is encouraging.
With the prominence that is being given to national health, there should be a splendid response to the association’s offer to provide at very moderate cost an opportunity for all to enjoy the benefits of improved health and fitness.
