PERSONAL ITEMS

Mr and Mrs J. Cameron, Tinui, have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs L. T. Daniell, Akura, is visiting Wellington.

Mrs Thompson, Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs Chamberlain, Renall Street, Masterton. The Misses J. and B. Laing, Tinui, have returned from a visit to Rotorua and the Chateau.

Miss M. Chapman, “Braeburn,” Masterton, and Miss R. Chapman, Victoria Street, who have been on a visit to Sydney, have returned to Masterton. Mr and Mrs T. Cunningham. Essex Street, Mastertor;, who have been on a holiday visit to the Marlborough Sounds, have returned to Mastertoil. Mrs F. G. Couper who has been staying with her sister. Mrs F. C. Lewis, Renall Street, Masterton, has returned to her home in Westbrook, Queensland. At the meeting at Carterton yesterday of the Wairarapa Federation of Women’s Institutes, the president (Mrs J. D. C. Crewe) presented the secretary, Mrs R. C. Austin, with a gold honours badge in recognition of her very valuable work over a long period of years. “If there was no Mrs Austin there would be on Federation,” was one of many tributes paid to Mrs Austin.

Prior to their recent marriage, Miss Alexa Polglase and Mr A. L. Wray were the guests of honour at a dance given by the residents of Ballance. Friends from Auckland, Wellington and Napier were among those present. After supper Miss Polglase, who was wearing honey-gold crinkled organdie, opened the numerous gifts brought by the guests. She was assisted by Mr Wray, who, on behalf of both of them, thanked everybody present for their gifts and kind wishes. A special gift was presented to Miss Polglase by. Mrs C. Holdaway, who, on behalf of the Ballance Women’s Institute, gave her a crystal jar. Miss Noel Groves, Longbush, Masterton, whose marriage to Mr Douglas Riddell, North Auckland, will take place at Masterton this evening, has been the guest of honour recently at several gift parties. On a recent evening the Longbush hall was crowded, when settlers of the district met to make Miss Groves a presentation. Miss Groves wore*a navy blue evening frock, relieved with white, and Mrs K. Groves wore black silk marocain. Dancing was enjoyed, and after supper Mr R. Palmer presented the bride-to-be with a brass firescreen fender and logbox, with the good wishes of her friends. Mrs H. A. R. Dundcrdale, of Lansdowne, was hostess at a gift evening party for Miss Groves. Miss Mary Booth, ‘‘‘Middle Run,” Carterton, entertained her at a “bathroom” afternoon, and Mrs W. Groves, Bush Grove, Masterton, held a “recipe evening,” when Miss Groves’s friends brought her many useful gifts and recipes for her new home.
