ELECTION POLICY
MR H. H. LIDDLE. (Published by Arrangement.) Your turn has come to elect Councillors for the Masterton Borough Council, and there are 16 aspirants for 11 seats. If you are quite satisfied in your own minds that the retiring men have rendered faithful service, then by all means put them back, and I for one will not lose any sleep over your decision. If I should be chosen to represent you I will do my best to give you all true representation, with no leaning to either class, because I have just as much respect for a working man as I have for a millionaire. As every one ought to know, one is no good without the other. As I see things, the following are a few reforms that would be advantageous:— 1. Enlarged or new swimming baths; better water supply. 2. Rates should be reduced, not raised, and I stand especially for a reduction of rates on suburban farmlets. The idea of the owner of a house and a few acres having to pay £3l yearly in rates seems to me well over the odds. 3. Stop the unearthly noise caused by motor bikes in the main streets. 4. Have a parking place for cars in the Park behind the ladies’ baths and have cars parked there instead of in the main streets, with a small charge, enough to pay the wages of a caretaker. In the good old days of horse vehicles, owners did not leave their vehicles standing about the streets; they put them in' a livery stable, and the same should apply to cars. 5. I think it is getting just about time that a municipal milk supply was considered for Masterton. 6. The library question has lately caused a lot of rumpus, and I think it would be for the best if the library was closed (if legal), and let people get their books from circulating libraries in the town. They could then please themselves what to read. Well, ladies and gentlemen, in conclusion, if you should consider me worthy of your support, I thank you very much in anticipation. Yours faithfully, (JOE) H. H. LIDDLE.
