CANADA’S DEBT

OBLIGATIONS TO EMPIRE STRESSED BY MR R. B. BENNETT. FRANK RECOGNITION URGED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 12.40 p.m.) OTTAWA, April 28. The Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett, Leader of the Conservative Party, addressing the Service Club said: “The staggering tax British people have been imposing on themselves is not solely of benefit to Britain, but to Canada too. What are we doing to recognise the debt owing to those who gave us this country?”

He urged a frank recognition of obligations to the Empire. Without the Empire, civilisation would perish. Regarding his trip to Australia, he stated that’he went in a United States vessel in order to learn about the competition that Canada faces. He was convinced that swifter transportation to the Antipodes was urgent.
