VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND DESIRED An eminent plant biologist, Professor Carl Shottberg, of Gothenburg University, Sweden, is expected to make a visit to New Zealand shortly. The professorial board recommended to the council of Victoria University College Wellington, last night that it make a contribution of not less than £lO to secure, in co-operation with the Royal Society of New Zealand and other interested bodies, a visit to the Dominion by Professor Shottberg. Professor H. B. Kirk, of the chair of biology, reported that Professor Shottsberg was a very eminent authority on plant biology and the relation ship to floras, especially in the Southern Hemisphere. . He had travelled widely in pursuit of this study and was about to visit Hawaii to deliver a course of lectures at the university there. His work was of particular interest to botany students in New Zealand. The principal of the college, Professor T. A. Hunter, said that, as Professor Shottsberg would be at Honolulu, a good many organisations were trying to get him to come to New Zealand. The professorial board’s recommendation was adopted.
