Dr Max Wien, the physicist and wireless pioneer, whose death was lately reported at Jena, in his 71st year, became known between 1904 and 1911 as the inventor of the Losch (interrupter) spark transmitter. He also invented the variometer and other technical devices used in wireless telegraphy. He played a leading part in the German wireless service during the war.
