FIELD DAY
YOUNG FARMERS AT SOLWAY. The Young Farmers’ field day held at the Solway Showgrounds yesterday was attended by over a hundred members from all parts of the Wairarapa, teams being present from the Ballance. Mangatainoka, Eketahuna, Tinui, Greytown, Martinborough, Featherston. Carterton and Masterton clubs and in addition, the United Kingdom and the New Zealand teams which recently visited Australia. Judging competitions were conducted with Romneys, Herefords, Ayrshires and Clydesdales. The United Kingdom team, which was welcomed by Mr W. James, district president, was Messrs E. Christopher. E. Williams. I. C. Gilmour, and R. Gamble. The New Zealand team. Messrs H. McKenzie, A. Fisher, Viles, and Cowan, competed against the British team, and a Wairarapa team in the judging competitions. The judges in the four classes, who later gave demonstrations, were: Clydesdales, Mr A. Hunter, Hawera; Herefords, Mr J. M. James. Masterton; Ayrshires and Romneys, Mr J. Donald, Masterton. The stock was supplied by Messrs N. Blatchford,- J. Matthews and W. Moore and Sir William Perry, and the stewards were Messrs A. H. Falloon. N. Blatchford. P. D. McLachlan, 11. Bennett and R. dent ci the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, a id the Dominion secretary, Mr S. Freeman, were present. The British team will be billeted in the Wairarapa until Saturday morning, whe i it will leave for the Manawatu.
