HAPPIER SPIRIT
AUSTRALIAN & ENGLISH CRICKETERS 1 EVIDENCE OF PLEASANT RELATIONS. OPINIONS ON TEST PROSPECTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. LONDON, April 26. Illustrating the cordiality of AngloAustralian cricket relations, G. O. B. Allen and R. W. V. Robins dined with D. G. Bradman and his team at the Australians’ hotel, after which the party went to a theatre together. The goodwill which characterised the team’s reception is thus not confined to the official public appearances. Compared with their pessimism two months ago, English critics are taking a more cheerful line, though they have nothing but two Australian practices on which to revise their calculations. The Australians feel that the English critics are focusing upon Bradman and are underestimating the talent of the new blood, for instance, Badcock, some of whose colleagues expect him to become in 1938 what Bradman was in 1930. “He’s a killer, that boy,” was the comment of a team mate, after reading another batch of comment implying that once Bradman is out half the battle is won. 7 ■(£&.. SUBSTITUTE WANTED. BARNES LIKELY TO MISS THREE TESTS. SYDNEY, April 26. It is reported that Mr Jeanes, manager of the Australian cricketers in England, has asked the board of control to send a substitute for Barnes, who was severely injured and damaged his wrist in a fall on board ship. He is likely to miss the first three Tests.
