ANZAC DAY IN LONDON

SERVICE IN ST. CLEMENT DANES. MANY WREATHS PLACED ON CENOTAPH. LONDON, April 25. One of London’s greyest days, with a slight drizzle, marked the Anzac observance. Fifteen hundred attended a service of remembrance at Saint Clement Danes. Many were turned away owing to a record application for seats. Several Australian cricketers, led by Jeans and Bradman, sat in a front pew. After Mr. S. M. Bruce and Mr W. J. Jordan had read the Lessons, the Last Post and Reveille were ded.The New Zealand mezzo-soprano, Christina Young, sang: “God Shall Wipe Away All Tears.” The Rev. George Graen, of Australia, gave an address on the spirit of Anzac. The organist was Mr. Arthur Mason, formerly of Sydney. Distinguished persons present included Field-Marshal Lord Birdwood, Lord Gort, General Sir A. Godley, the agents-general for the Australian States and representatives of the British Government, most of whom placed wreaths on the church war shrine. During the day, the mound of wreaths grew on the Cenotaph. It included those from Messrs Bruce and Jordan, Lord Birdwood, General Godley and Mrs Jordan, who unveiled a wreath packed in ice from the Auckland branch of the Mothers’ Union.
