SHEEP FOR THREEPENCE
DROUGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES. WESTERN AREAS IN TERRIBLE CONDITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 26. “Sheep are being sold for threepence a head in the western districts of New South Wales, which are in a terrible state owing to prolonged drought,” said Mr Don Max, of Nelson, an exNew Zealand Rugby rep., who returned by the Awatea after a tour of Australia with 44 New Zealanders. “The whole of this area has dried right up,” he said, “and many places have not had rain for over seven months.” Mr Max was greatly impressed by the Royal Sydney Easter Show. At Canberra he went through all the research plants and considered them similar to the Cawthron Institute at Nelson. Agricultural research in particular was undertaken fully. He was very pleased to have met a number of Rugby players against whom he had played in past. They are greatly looking forward to the New Zealand team’s tour.
