AGAINST RELIGION

NEW ERA OF PERSECUTION IN RUSSIAN REPORTS OF WHOLESALE ARRESTS LONDON, April 25. The “Times’ ” Riga correspondent says new anti-religious activity in recent weeks has been intensified this week, which is the Russian Easter. The Soviet Press speaks of trials, “liquidations,” investigations and arrests through Russia, mentioning members of the Orthodox Church, Protestants Catholics and others charged with Bukharinism and Trotskyism and with organising burglaries, assassinations, railways collisions, crop failures, brigandage and espionage for Germany, Poland and Japan. Over-filled churches on April 24 were partly due to a reduction in the number of churches, but reports indicate that Easter was celebrated in many centres on a greater scale than in recent years.
