WEDDING
• HABIB—CROSS. ("Times-Age” Special.) A wedding of widespread interest was solemnised recently at St Joseph’s Church, Buckle Street, Wellington. The contracting parties were Florence Jean, second daughter of Mr and Mrs .C. O. Cross, Tarokoki, Takaka, and Peter Habiob, eldest son of Mrs J. Saba, Featherston, and the late Mr A. Habib, of Masterton. The Rev Father Fletcher performed the ceremony, and also celebrated Nuptial Mass. Mr M. Fernie officiated at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a becoming gown of cream satin with lace yoke and sleeves. The skirt, which fell into a full flare, had a lace godet inset at the back forming a long train. Her long embroidered tulle veil, which was worn over the face on entering the church, fell from a halo of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of cream roses. The three bridesmaids, Misses Evelyn Habib (chief), Gwendoline Saba (sisters of the bridegroom) and Hazel Cross (sister of the bride), were dressed alike in shell pink French silk velvet, trimmed with silver’ buttons and lame, and wore plaited halos to match. They carried bouquets of pink nerines, blue delphiniums and hydrangeas and maiden hair and asparagus ferns. Mr Rex Cross, Nelson (brother of the bride) was best man, and Messrs Anthony Habib and Joseph Saba (brothers of the bridegroom) were groomsmen.
A reception was afterwards held at the Assembly. Hall, Brougham Street. Guests were present from as far north as New Plymouth and as far south as Westport. Mr and Mrs Peter Habib, who were recipients of many beautiful presents and cheques, will reside in Featherston.
