INAUGURATION OF REDUCED CHARGES. CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRESS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 2G. The Press Association has received the following cablegram from Mr Edward Wilshaw, chairman of Cable and Wireless, Ltd., London, dated April 25: “On the inauguration today of reductions in overseas telegraph charges under the new Empire flat rate scheme, I venture to hope that our desire to serve in this way the social and commercial interests of the Empire may be fulfilled, and that in particular it may bring benefit to your own undertaking.” EXCHANGE OF GREETINGS. MESSAGES TO EMPIRE OUTPOSTS. (Recd This Day, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, April 25. Inaugurating inter-Empire fivepenny rate cables, Mr Edward Wilshaw stated that the Government had approved a proposal that the chairman of Cable and Wireless, Ltd., should send a message to the governors of colon r ies, to four Empire outposts and to 70,000 regular clients. Mr Cluny Ross, uncrowned king of the Cocos Islands and others, including Fanning Island, had flashed back congratulations. A message of good wishes on the occasion of the inauguration of the reduced cable charges, has been received by the “Wairarapa Times-Age” from Mr Edward Wilshaw, chairman of Cable and Wireless. Ltd., and is cordially acknowledged.
