HINTS FOR THE HOUSEWIFE

Milk will never boil over if the top of the saucepan is smeared with glycerine before the milk is put on the fire. Apples can be stored indefinitely if a tiny film of glycerine is rubbed over them. When storing, leave a small space in the shelf between each one. To drive a nail into a wall securely enough to hold a picture, make the hole carefully with the nail to be used, then as carefully withdraw it. Fill the hole with plaster of Paris and insert the nail, holding it still until the plaster has set. The nail will not pull out of position by the weight of the picture. Rub the grooves of sliding doors and drawers with graphite now and then. They will run more smoothly and noiselessly.
