DISNEY AMAZES WHOLE INDUSTRY

Credit Walt Disney with providing the sensation of the film-world in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” playing a five-weeks’ season at the New York Radio City Music Hall! Firstly, the significance of this achievement lies in the fact that Radio City is the largest theatre in the world, and that the previous record there —in the five-years’ existence of the building—was a three weeks’ run. Pictures that “Snow White” thus completely surpassed include “Top Hat,” “Cavalcade” and “Little Women.” But even five weeks do not represent the limit of the Disney triumph. The management of Radio City were overwhelmed with requests for a still further extension of the season.. But this was utterly impossible, due to contract obligations for the presentation of other listed productions. Completely justified, then, is the pre-eminent place that “Snow White” is conceded by the industry to be taking in the making of fresh film history. This outstanding attraction is scheduled to screen at the State Theatre in the near future.

“Nothing Sacred,” will be the first colour picture in screen . history to utilize newly-invented special equipment which makes possible unusual photography. Devised by Jack Cosgrove, the colour process printer, as it is known technically, makes possible the showing on the screen of several different scenes simultaneously. Trick photography of all kinds is now also available to the technicolour cameras, through the invention. It took a year’s research work, and an expenditure of more than £lOOO for experimental purposes, under studio subsidy, to bring the device to perfection. Film engineers have been striving for years to achieve this result.
