THEFT ADMITTED
STORY OF A JAUNT. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND. April 21. The story of a jaunt from Auckland to Wellington on money stolen on the waterfront was told in the Magistrates’ Court, when Gordon Robert Edwards, aged 22, a quarter-caste Maori from Kaitaia, pleaded guilty to the theft on April 1 of £3O, the property of Charles Madley.
The police said that Edwards fell in with a boy who deserted from a ship and they co-operated in a plan to steal money from the mate of the trawler Coastguard. They travelled to Wellington, where, it was alleged. Edwards took £l5 from the boy while he was asleep. They met again on the train. The boy threatened to hand Edwards over to the police, whereupon they set out to share the money until it was finally exhausted. The magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt. S.M., remanded Edwards for a week because the boy has finally to be dealt with in the Magistrates’ Court.
