TROTTING CHAMPIONSHIPS
ALLOTTED TO TASMANIA. By Telegraph.—Press Association, CHRISTCHURCH, April 21. Delegates to the inter-Dominion Trotting Council decided to allot the next championships to the Northern Tasmanian Trotting Association provided that state was prepared to offer at least £7,000 in stakes for a fourday meeting. In the event of the Northern Tasmanian Trotting Association not being able to comply with the conditions the West Australian Trotting Association will be asked to conduct the meetings. At all future championships, it was agreed, the total stakes for the four days must be at least £B,OOO, but with a view to assisting trotting in Tasmania the amount was reduced to £7,000 for the 1939 meeting if held by that State. A recommendation that States should consider the inclusion in their programmes of a three-year-old classic race with a sufficient stake to encourage representative entries was carried. The question of allotting points for the championship events was discussed, and it was decided to recommend that in future points should be awarded for all events, including a grand final. The system of allotting points was held over until the end of the present championship meeting.
