POWER REVENUE
FINANCES OF WAIRARAPA BOARD BIG INCREASE IN RETURNS. SOUND POSITION OF TRADING DEPARTMENT. “The gain this year is considerably more than has ever been experienced before, and the total revenue from sales of electricity, excluding street lighting, exceeds that of any previous year by £6823," stated the Secretary-Man-ager, Mr G. Brown, in the course of a financial statement submitted to' this morning’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. “The total net revenue from all sources,” Mr Brown added, “amounted to £64,295 2s 3d. The previous highest figure was £56,792 5s Bd.”
“For the complete financial year,” Mr Brown continued, “the position is as-follows:—Net revenue year ending 31/3/37, £46,804 4s lid; estimated net revenue year ending 31/3/38, £49,535; actual net revenue year ending 31/3/38, £52,669 0s 7d; gain on 1936/37, £5,864 15s 8d; gain on estimate, £3,134 0s 7d. The returns from bulk supply are equally satisfactory. The total gain on 1936/37 was £6,823 Ils 6d and the total gain on the estimate was £4289 Ils 7d.
“During the year 1842 new jobs and additions were carried out as compared with 1471 for 1936/37. The number of consumers is now 5,637. “The turnover in the trading department for 1937/38 is the largest experienced since 1924, when the bulk of the board’s reticulation work was carried out. The figures are (with those for 1936/37 in parentheses):— “Installations, £20,467 19s 2d (£14,568 9s 2d), a gain of £5,899 10s, or 40 per cent.
“Showrooms, £4,775 4s lid (£3,280 9s lid), a gain of £1,494 Jss, or 65 per cent.
“Repairs, £2,233 8s 8d (£1,759 10s 4d), a gain of £473 18s 4d, or 28 per cent.
“Totals, £27,476, 12s 9d (£19,608 9s sd), a gain of £7,868 3s 4d. “It will be found that the expenditure has not increased in anything like the same proportion and that the net profit for the year will show a substantial increase on the estimate,”
