POPPY DAY
Tomorrow (Friday) is Poppy Day in Masterton when 3485 poppies will be released for sale. In the absence of the Mayoress (Mrs T. Jordan), the sales are in the hands of Mrs J. Caselberg assisted by a committee of voluntary workers who will make a systematic canvass of all the streets. The funds derived from the sales of the poppies will be retained by the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers' Association for the alleviation of distress among ex-Service men of this district. Last winter the sum of £487 was expended in this direction. The R.S.A. appeals to the public to accord tile same generous support to the poppy campaign as has been accorded in the past. The minimum price of poppies is one shilling, but there is no maximum to the number that can be purchased. It is anticipated that Masterton will eclipse all previous records in poppy sales on Friday.
