RANDWICK RACES

CHAMPAGNE STAKES TO PANDAVA. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Copyright. SYDNEY, April 20. The weather for the third day of the Randwick meeting was a mixture of sunshine, wind and rain. The last two races were run in heavy showers. The attendance was 24,000, compared with 20.000 in 1937. Ajax, as expected, made hacks of the opponents in the All-Aged Plate, his time for the mile, 1.351, equalling Ajax's own Australian and New Zealand record. Ajax has now won £lB,000 in stakes. Pandava and Nuffield staged another duel in the Champagne Stakes, on this occasion Pandava winning owing to Nuffield allowing his rival to get too far in front. Old Rowley won the Cumberland Plate all the way and thus atoned for recent disappointments. Country Party would have been most unlucky to have lost the Coogee Handicap, in which he received several checks. Bristol, although badly placed in the City Handicap, came from the clouds to win in the last stride from Sal Volatile. The jockey H. Badger was suspended for a month for careless riding in the Cumberland Plate. Results:— Autumn Hurdle Race, about two miles and three furlongs.—Keewong 1; Spearbine 2; Capaneus 3. Six started.
