CATHOLIC CLUBS
CONFERENCE AND COMPETITIONS GATHERING IN MASTERTON. The annual conference and competitions of the Federated Catholic .Clubs and Societies of New Zealand opened in Masterton this morning. Delegates are present from Hamilton, Frankton Junction, Marist Old Boys (Wellington), St Patrick’s College Old Boys (Wellington), Masterton Catholic Club, Masterton Hibernian Society and the St Patrick's Old Pupils’ Association (Masterton). Mr S. Herbert president of the Masterton Catholic Club and of the North Island executive of Catholic Clubs, presided. The annual report was adopted and the conference adjourned for lunch. The luncheon was presided over by Father N. Moore, of Masterton. Others present included Mr Herbert, Mi- W. Orange (vice-president of the Masterton Catholic Club), Father Cleary (Wellington), and Father M. Dillon (Masterton). There was an attendance of between 60 and 70. Father Moore extended a welcome to the visiting delegates. This afternoon debates are being held for the Redwood Memorial Shield and this evening a complimentary dance to the visitors and competitors will be held. The conference will be concluded tomorrow. A parade of all delegates, competitors and members of the clubs and societies will be held at 6.45 a.m. at St Patrick’s Hall and Mass and general communion will be celebrated at 7 a.m. Elocution and other competitions will start at 10.30 and the conference will resume at 4 p.m. At 7.45 religious questions, impromptu speeches and the presentation of diplomas and the shield will take place.
