RESULTS OF TODAY’S EVENTS WAIRARAPA. MASTER CYKLON WINS EASILY. (By “The Cynic.”) The Wairarapa Racing Club’s Autumn meeting opened at Taurehenikau today in unpleasant weather conditions. The track was holding after allnight rain, which also affected the attendance. Fields of a useful size paraded in the various events and keen and exciting finishes were the ordei of the day. Results up to the time of going to press were: — MAIDEN PLATE, of £lOO, 6f. 1 Gay Hunting, 8.7 (C. Walker) .... 1 5 Rowana, 8.7 (R. Gladding) 2 7 Great Quex, 8.7 (P. Burgess) .... 3 Scratched: Royal Spades. Won by a length, half a length between second and third. Time, 1.17 J. First out and first home was the way the favourite, Gay Hunting, won the Maiden Plate. Rowana, Sir Joe Joe and Great Quex chased Gay Hunting to the straight and in an exciting finish Gay Hunting stayed on to beat Rowana by a length, Great Quex being third, half a length away. Fitzgerald was fourth. The others were never sighted. MOKAI HANDICAP, of £2OO, 6f. 3 Majority, 7.7 (S. Wilson) 1 2 Alunga, 7.13 (W. Doyle) 2 1 Peter Beckford, 9.3 (R. Marsh) .... 3 All started. Won by two lengths, with the third horse four lengths away. Export was fourth. Time, 1.14 4-5. Having his first start in open company Majority romped home in the Mokai Handicap. Bodyline had charge after a couple of furlongs had been covered, from Peter Beckford, Alloa and Export. When the home stretch was sighted Majority hit the front. Alunga made a bold bid at the distance but was unable to make any impression on Majority, who won by two lengths. EASTER HANDICAP, of £5OO, Hrn. 2 Master Cyklon, 8.11 (P. Burgess) 1 6 Boomerang, 7.12 (S. Wilson) 2 8 Good Sun, 7.5 (L. Nesbit) 3 Scratched, Airam, Mister Quex. Won by five lengths, 2 lengths between second and third. Lucullus Lad was fourth. Time, 2.13 2-5. Never further back in the running than third, Master Cyklon assumed command in the straight, winning the Easter Handicap with the greatest of ease. Silver River was the pace-maker from the barrier, followed by Sergia, Master Cyklon and Boomerang. Silver River was still two lengths to the goods when the field turned for home but he drifted badly and Master Cyklon came up on the outer and scored by five lengths from Boomerang. Good Sun, seventh at the top of the straight, collected third money two lengths further back and Lucullus Lad was fourth. The favourite, Ned Cuttie, was never sighted. Jumping our smartly from the barrier, Hunter’s Eve, first favourite, led all the way and scored narrowly in the Wairarapa Nursery. When the straight was reached Hunter’s Eve was eight lengths out from Rakahanga, with a gap between Yours Truly and Twenty Grand. Hunter’s Eve tired badly in the run to the post, but she managed to hold on long enough to beat the fast-finishing Rakahanga by a neck Yours Truly was four lengths back third, and Raratonga was fourth. TUHITARATA HACK HANDICAP, Of £250, 9f and 180yds. 1 Shani (H. Callahn) 1 5 Earl Colossus (P. Williams) 2 6 Galteemore (W. Doyle) 3 Won by a length, five lengths between second and third. Won by half a length with the third horse five lengths away. Time, 2.59.
