THE SWANSON MURDER
CHARGE AGAINST SPENSLEY. EVIDENCE OF ARMS OFFICER. By Telegraph.-—Press Association. AUCKLAND, This Day. When the hearing of the charge against Francis Borgia Spensley of having murdered his father at Swanson on or about February 7 was resumed at the S.M. court today there were still 13 witnesses to be called. Two local storekeepers gave evidence that accused began to make purchases in February. A stock clerk in evidence stated that accused had eleven head of stock in a sale at Henderson on March 7. All were sold and accused claimed the payment of £36 7s, stating that he preferred cash. A clerk employed by a car hiring firm stated that accused paid £9 deposit for the hire of a car for three days, giving his name as Robert Spensley. Gregory Kelly, arms advisory officer of the police department, Wellington, said that the grooving of the bullets from the skull of deceased was consistent with the theory that they had been fired from the rifle produced in court. The case is proceeding.
