THE ONLY ACTOR TO CATCH A SPY
William Hall, starred in Universal’s “The Spy Ring,” coming on Saturday next to the Cosy Theatre, is the only actor in Hollywood who ever captured a real foreign spy! After studying for the Consular Service at Georgetown University, Hall obtained a position with the American consulate in a foreign country. He gave up his career very soon to become a singer. But while in the service he had one exciting experience. One night a man, neither an American, nor a native of the country in which Hall was stationed, was caught by Hall endeavouring to break into the safe to get papers he believed revealed plans of the American Government to be presented at a forthcoming peace conference. While in jail awaiting trial the spy committed suicide by hanging himself. His nationality never was determined. “The Spy Ring” is the story of a- group of clever foreign spies who try vainly to murder an army captain in order to steal a machine gun device he has invented.
