DRILLING FOR OIL

OPERATIONS IN POVERTY BAY DISTRICT. GISBORNE, April 13. Active drilling for oil in Poverty Bay will be resumed within a few months, Vacuum Oil interests having selected a site on the property of Mr Dougal Williams, Ngatapa. The site is on what is known as Totangi Dome, which has not previously 'been tested, though it is one of the formations originally mapped by Taranaki Oilfields. The machinery, now en route to New Zealand, will be capable of drilling to a depth of 8500 ft.
