STREETS AND FOOTPATHS
NEW WORK IN MASTERTON BOROUGH. SURVEY OF PAST YEAR. A comprehensive survey of the work carried out in Masterton during the' past twelve months was given by the Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, in his annual report submitted to last night's meeting of the Borough Council. Permanent surfacing was carried out in five streets, the total length being 691 chains. Thirteen streets were resurfaced to a total length of four miles 47 chains. The flanks of thirteen streets, of a total length of five miles fifteen and a-half chains, were tarred and sanded. Five miles of footpaths were tarred and sanded and one mile sixty-four chains of footpaths were formed, reformed or graded. Fortynine chains of kerbing were also constructed.
The total quantities of materials used were as follow, the corresponding figures for last year being given in parentheses: Gravel. 8021 c yds. (807:2); sand. 1768:,' c yds (1952): metal (broken) and chips, 787 c yds (6533): filling. 7985 c yds (31485); tar and bitumen, 61,204 gal (60,332 gal); kerb blocks, 1078 (1012).
Tributes were paid by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, and councillors to the splendid work carried out during the year by the Borough Engineer and he was congratulated on what he had achieved.
