KING FAROUK

SPEECH AT THE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT GRATIFICATION AT OUTCOME OF ELECTIONS HOPE OF MAKING LEAGUE STRONGER (Recd This Day, 10.20 a.m.) CAIRO, April 12. For the first time in the history of Egypt, two queens, King Faroukis mother, and his new consort, Queen Farida, appeared in the royal box at the opening of Parliament by King Farouk. King Farouk’s speech was read by Mahmoud Pasha,. The King thanked God that the elections had confirmed the existence of a sane conception of government. He referred to the necessity for a large and well-equipped army in the heavily laden atmosphere of the world, in which no one was able to flatter himself he was safe. The King said he hoped the League of Nations would acquire greater authority.
