MYSTERIOUS DISEASE
OUTBREAK IN DURBAN,
Durban has been startled by the outbreak of a mysterious disease, a form of paralysis which has affected more than 30 people. It is generally described as a weakness in the limbs, but all tests for recognised maladies such as meningitis, cerebral malaria,
or infantile paralysis have proved negative. A mass meeting of doctors —more than 81) attended—has been held, but
up to the present all efforts to diagnose the disease have failed.
One strange development was the news from Europe that ar. epidemic of a similar form of par alysis had broken out on board the French motor vessel Jean L.D., all members of the crew being stricken dov.'n with it when in the English Channe l. Durban was the last port at which 11 lis vessel called.
