KEEPER FINED £lOO.

As a sequel to a search by the police of premises in Commerce Street, Douglas Hipkins, aged 45, tobacconist, was fined £lOO, in default six weeks’ imprisonment, for having used the premises as a common gaming-house. The police said when arrested Hipkins had £97 in his possession. He had been before the court previously, but not for the last three years.

The magistrate, Mr W. R. McKean: I suppose you have been carrying on the business of bookmaking ever since haven’t you? Hipkins: Part of the time.
