WORKING SHAREHOLDERS

EXEMPT FROM AWARD. MAGISTRATE’S DECISION. By Telegraph. —Press Association. NELSON, This Day. A decision that the intention of the award was to exonerate workers holding shares in a company from being compelled to join a Workers Union was given by Mr E. Maunsell, S.M., in a case in which the inspector of awards took action against the Puponga Coal Mine Co., Ltd., for an alleged breach of the award in employing in the mine four persons who were not members of the Union, there being members of the Union available for the work required. The Magistrate held that a clause in the award entitled the company to employ shareholders though they were not unionists.
