PERMANENT SURFACING
TAUERU TO BLAIRLOGIE SECTION. ESTIMATED COST £29,423. At today's meeting of the Masterton County Council the Engineers, Messrs Seaton, Sladden and Pavitt, advised that the preliminary estimate for reconstruction, metalling, culverting and sealing of the Taueru to Blairlogie section of the Masterton-Castle-point Main Highway was £29,423, made up as follows: — Deviation widening and metalling, £19,335; culverts, £800; fencing, £480; priming and sealing, £0,808; contingencies, £600; engineering. £1,400; total, £29,423.
The length of the section was 71 miles and the estimate provides for the Kahumingi deviation at about 3m. 50chs. and the straightening of the “S” bends at about 10m. 42chs. The earthwork throughout will be heavy to bring the road up to highway standard preparatory to sealing and will involve the excavation of some 67,000 cubic yards.
