FARM WORKERS
POINTS IN INTERPRETATION OF AGREEMENT.
SOME HOLIDAY QUESTIONS.
Several points of interpretation of the Farm and Station Workers’ Agreement have been varied recently and the following rulings are of general interest to the farming community. A casual worker is to be paid for time worked only and obviously, if holidays such as Christmas Day, Anzac Day or Good Friday are granted, these days are not paid for. There is no recognition of statutory holidays under the agreement. All holidays are considered working days unless a holiday is given, in which case, payment is made. In the case of a permanent employee whose eighteen days holiday includes such days as Good Friday and Anzac Day, these days do not need to be added to the requisite eighteen days' holiday. Eighteen working days are to be given as holidays.
