Wright Stephenson and Company Ltd., have just completed the sale of a two-year-old filly by Martarma from Lady Colossus, on behalf of Mr John Porter, Akaroa. The filly, who is a full relative to the recent winner, Galteemore, is big and strongly made, with good action. She has been given any amount of time, as Mr Porter has a strong opinion that she will stay. The filly has been purchased on behalf of Mr P. D. Bolton, Bombay, who raced both Karapoti and Martara. The intention is to have her broken in in New Zealand, and probably she will do some racing in this country before she is shipped to India.

In his last appearance, in New. Zealand Willie Win 9.6 beat Sovereign Lady 8.0, and Davolo 9.0, and Dictate 8.8 in the Heathcote Handicap won in Imin. 54secs. Willie Win was generally considered short of work then, prior to being shipped to Australia. In the Great Autumn Willie Win meets Sovereign Lady on 121 b. better terms. Davolo on 31b. and Dictate on 51b. worse terms. On the figures, Willie Win has the others at his mercy, unless they have made a lot of improvement.

G. W. New has taken in hand a yearling bay filly by Gascony from Talari, a sister to Princess Doreen.

The filly has been well done and is a racy. type.

A paii' of two-year-olds by Laughing Prince have joined L. G. Morris's team at Awapuni. One is a half-sister to and favours Cadland; the other is from the Psychology mare, Sigma.

Further yearlings from R. S. Bagby's stable to make their appearance on the track are colts by Seigfried—Polonaise and Pink Coat —The Geisha, respectively. They were purchased at the January sales and both appear tractable youngsters.

Red Witch, winner of the Maiden Handicap at the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's meeting last week, is a three-year-old filly by Nigger Minstrel from the Hunting Song—Smoke Concert mare Enchantment. She is a first foal and was bred by her owner-trainer. Mr G. D. Beastori.

Density, a two-year-old filly by Pink Coat from the Australian-bred Denise, is a speedy galloper, but as yet lacks race experience. She was going well in her race at Waimate on Saturday until she ran wide at the home turn, and before her rider was able to straighten her up again her chance of taking part in the finish had vanished.

No horses are doing better in their work at Trentham at present than Sigurd and Galteemore. Each was disappointing in. the spring, when they were just not quite good enough to win races, but a short spell over the summer made them much more solid.

A remarkable story attaches to Loveoil, the dam of Philamor, who is at the stud at Mataura. Philamor, incidentally was sold as a yearling for 8500 guineas. Loveoil, who was a great bargain as a youngster, being purchased for 35 t guineas, did not race but was put. to the stud. Her first four yearlings brought nearly 8000 guineas, and she was then sold for 7100 guineas. A return of 14,965 guineas for an initial outlay of 35 guineas is a handsome one indeed, but the story does not end there. Although paying a big price, Loveoil’s next owner has to date secured a return of more than 31,000 guineas for her progeny.

Cocksure will start in the Autumn Champion Plate on the first day at Riccarton, and will be ridden by L. J. Ellis.

The placed lot in last year’s Great Autumn Handicap were Willie Win 77.13, Arctic King 8.2 J, and Wild Chase 9.6. Ponty 8.11 and Rebel Lad 7.13, Arctic King 8.2 J, and Wild ses. This year Willie Win meets Arctic King on 15Jlb. and Wild Chase on 211 b. worse terms. Wild Chase, at his best, would be very dangerous.

While galloping at Greenmeadows last week, the Gainscourt mare Bly Gain broke a leg and was destroyed. Bly Gain had .raced for five seasons and proved a consistently good but unlucky performer, for in 84 starts she won 11 times and gained 29 seconds and 12 thirds. Therefore she was placed in an unusually busy career in over 60 per cent, of her races. She was bred in 1930 and was raced successively in the interests of Messrs T. A. Rich, W. O. Whitfield, and W. J. Wilson, the last-named securing possession of her half-way through her five-year-old career. Her dam was the Gazeley mare. Miss Gazeley, who was a complete failure on the Turf and produced only two foals, Bly Gain being the last.

When Master Anomaly won on the first day of the Dunedin Cup meeting he carried 10.1 and beat Superex 10.2 by four lengths. On the second day Master Anomaly carried 10.13 and beat Top Rank 9.6 and Superex 10.6. At Riccarton Superex meets Master Anomaly on 81b. better terms over an extra quarter-mile for a six-length beating. Superex may stay better than Master Anomaly, and the Riccarton figures give the former a good chance.

Both of the above horses may, however, have to play “second fiddle" to Silver Sight, who ran a good race in the Waimate Cup and put up a better gallop than either Master Anomaly or Superex could produce. In the early part of the season he showed good form over both plain and brush hurdles. At the New Zealand Cup meeting, Silver Sight 10.0 beat Last Link 9.1 by a head, and Superex 9.0 was unplaced. On the third day of the meeting Silver Sight 10.11 was fourth to Last Link 9.7, Red Sun 11.2 and John Charles 10.6 in 3min. 11 2-ssecs. Silver Sight w;n in 3min. 10 l-ssecs. on the first day. Superex 9.0 was unplaced in Last Link’s race. At Invercargill Superex 9.9 beat Master Anomaly 9.11 by a head. Superex 10.2 was second to Grampian 9.0 at the Riccarton midsummer meeting and second and third to Master Anomaly at the Dunedin Cup meeting. Superex then won a High Weight Handicap at Oamaru.

Going back to hurdle form Silver Sight gave 251 b. and a beating to Superex and in the Kildare Brush Hurdles the latter comes in on 141 b. worse terms. Silver Sight proved himself about two stone better than Superex when they last met and is very well handicapped at meeting him at a difference of 111 b. It appears as if Silver Sight should have been made top weight.
