PROGRESS OF THE SPANISH INSURGENTS SOME COAST TOWNS ABANDONED BY REPUBLICANS. NEIGHBOURING VALLEYS HELD AND REINFORCED. (Recd This Day, 12.35 p.m.) SAN SEBASTIAN. April I'o. General Franco's troops are encircling Tremp and are slowliny forging seawards. The loyalists have ordered the evacuation of Tortosa, Vinaro and Benicarlo, but are reinforcing the troops in the neighbouring valleys. Vinaroz and Benicarlo are on the coast of the Gulf of Valencia. Tortosa is in the valley of the Ebro, about 20 miles inland. ATTACKS STEMMED. INITIATIVE REGAINED BY LOYALISTS. (Rccd This Day, 1.5 p.m.) SAN SEBASTIAN, April 10. The loyalists have regained the initiative at Lerida and in the lower Ebro Valley and are driving back the Italians from Tortosa and confining the Moors to the defensive.
