THE REGENT.
“MR DODD TAKES THE AIR.” There was a crowded house at the Regent Theatre on Saturday night when there was shown that sensation of music, mirth and melody, “.Mr Dodd Takes the Air,” which will be presented again tonight and tomorrow. It is a lavishly produced comedy with an excellently written screen play written by William Wister Haines and Elaine Ryan from the Kelland original. Notables in the casi include, besides Kenny Safer, Jane Wyman, Frank McHugh, Alice Brady, Gertrude Michael, Henry O’Neill and Ferris Taylor. Harry Warren and Al Dubin, Warner Bros, song-writers, were on a New York vacation-business trip when they got the assignment to write the words and music for the songs in “Mr. Dodd Takes the Air,” which is Mervyn LeRoy’s musical comedy for Warner Bros. They had completed two of the’ required five numbers by the time they left New York. The ballad was written, both words and music, on the train two days before the song-writers had an opportunity to try it over on their piano. Seats may be reserved at the Regent, ’phone 2303.
