The Prime Minister of Australia the Rt. Hon. J. A. Lyons) announced recently that his Government was to spend £24,800.000 during the next three years on armament. The small arms factory at Lithgow. N.S.W. is at present carrying a staff of 400, and can turn out sufficient munitions to meet peace time requirements. This picture shows the assembling of Vickers Mark 1 machine guns. In the event of war the factory would accommodate a staff of 2000 workers.
