HIRE PURCHASE SYSTEM

USES AND ABUSES. The uses and abuses of the hirepurchase system have recently been the subject of discussion in the British Parliament. A Hire-purchasers’ Protection Society (says the Manchester “Guardian”) has now been formed to safeguard the interests of those guileless people who enter into hirepurchase agreements of an undesirable kind without knowing what risks they are running. The chairman of the society is Mr G. R. Hall Caine, who has been active, in raising the hire-purchase question in the House of Commons.. The society proposes to scrutinise and explain hire-purchase agreements which its members may be invited to sign, and it will provide free legal defence if a case is brought against a member and the case should in its opinion, be defended. It will also provide free legal opinion in all cases, and will acquaint its members from time to time with legal decisions and new legislation which may affect the rights of hire-purchasers.
