“Owing to several requests to turn the property of John Holt, Ltd., Puketitiri, into a bird sanctuary. I have decided to agree to the course being adopted if it is the desire of the society," stated Mr G. C. Holt in a letter to the Hawke's Bay Acclimatisation Society. The chairman, Mr J. H. Edmundson, stated that the land offered by Mr Holt, was almost next.to the land given some time ago as a scenic reserve by MiFrank Hutchinson, of Omatua, Rissington. It would make an ideal sanctuary. It was decided to accept Mr Holt’s offer and a letter was to be sent to him expressing deep appreciation of his action.
